Ingredients

  • Sharp end wax comb
  • Hairdryer
  • Cleaning spray
  • Warm water
  • Coconut oil
  • Cloth
  • Towel

Step 1: Put the Surfboard on Sunlight

The first thing to do is to remove the sandy, dirty, and old wax. Sometimes people get lazy and don’t remove the wax properly. It increases the weight of the board as well as creates problems while cleaning.

Put the surfboard in the sunlight and let the wax be softer. If the day is rainy then use a hairdryer to warm the board. Make sure, not to warm it heavily whether by hairdryer or sunlight. It may damage your board or fade the color.

Step 2: Remove the Wax

It is a very easy step and if you follow the diamond pattern rule then it is quicker. Take the wax comb and use the serrated edge to create a diagonal cut going both ways on the wax. Make sure you end up creating diamond shapes.

Now flip the comb and use the sharp edge to remove the wax. Do it gently unless you want to create scratches on your board.

Step 3: Wipe away the Light Wax

Even after cleaning, you will see some light spots of waxing. Cleaning them with a sharp comb can discolor or damage the board. The best war to remove them is by using warm water.

Pour some warm water on the board and leave it for few minutes. Soon the wax will be softened. Use a dry cloth and wipe away the wax.

Step 4: Apply the Cleanings Spray

Now the main step of cleaning. Take your cleaning agent and spray it on the board. Must check out the direction or instructions of the cleaning agent. Make sure to spray the right amount. Then you have to wait for a few minutes. It depends on the spray. You will find them in the instruction. Generally, it is 5 minutes.

Step 5: Wipe the Board

Now pour some cleaning agent on a clean towel. Take the towel gently and wipe the board properly. Follow the tail to nose or rail to rail pattern to clean quickly.

If you are out of the cleaning agent then you can use coconut oil instead of it. Now leave the surfboard till it is dry and free from cleaning products and old wax.

Your board is clean as a new one and now it’s time to wax your surfboard.

How Often Should I Clean a Surfboard?

This is a very common question related to surfboard cleaning. First of all, rinse and wipe your surfboard regularly after every ride. Salty water is not good for the surfboard, so clean it with normal water.

Now, If you want to know about deep cleaning then I suggest clean it every few sessions.
